Sam's Cornwall
On a recent jaunt down to the South Coast of Cornwall we had the honour of being hosted by the renowned Sam’s. Sam’s moto is “Good Food, Good Places and Good People” and it’s tough to find a more accurate description. Their great array of seafood and hearty mains ensures a real dilemma when it comes to choosing what to have. Indeed, if you’re equally torn you’ll probably do what we did and opt for the Surf n’turf, and you most certainly won’t regret it!
Our first stop took us to Sam’s on the Beach in Polkerris. Here beyond the friendly hospitality and fantastic food on offer, you are afforded the most amazing views across St Austell Bay. We definitely recommend coming here in the evening to take in the sunset, if you know of one that surpasses this then we’d love to hear about it. Sam’s Polkerris is brilliantly located, incorporated in a former lifeboat station the end of which has been transformed into a brilliant glass façade. Even if weather dictates you need to sit inside, we highly recommend enjoying a glass of wine with the anti-pasti whilst watching the waves hit the shore.
After Sam’s in Polkerris we were whisked back to the idyllic town of Fowey and to the iconic Sam’s Fowey. There are no reservations in this wonderfully decorated bistro, but in place, is a great system where you order your food at the outset and then they take you upstairs to the cocktail bar where you can relax until your table is ready. Whilst waiting you can take in some of the music and film memorabilia adorning the walls. It is the staff that really ensure this will be a meal that endures long in the memory bank. Friendly yet attentive, we have visited many other establishments that could learn a thing or two from the wonderful hospitality on offer here.
